On the Friday after Thanksgiving I spent most of the day at the house of my wife’s grandfather. He is now recovering from a broken hip and living at my wife’s aunt’s house. The family decided that given his age, it’s probably best that they sell his home of over 40 years. In order to sell his house, we obviously needed to clean it up and make it “sell ready”.
When we were there a few weeks ago and started this process, we realized that taking out trash to the curb wasn’t going to cut it. The family decided it would take a dumpster to get the house clean enough to put on the market. As we regrouped on Friday and began to clean things out, we were all amazed at the amount of “stuff” was packed in to that tiny home. My brother-in-law made a comment along the lines, “it’s a shame that after 40 years, much of their life is in this dumpster.”
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)
